Gastro-esophageal reflux and heartburn in pregnancy

You will be one of the lucky few if you didn't have gastro-esophageal reflux (GER) and heartburn during pregnancy.  Trust me it ain't pretty.  You go and complaint to the doctor and doctor said, well, woman, you just have to deal with it :( .  If I understand correctly, both happens due to the hormonal changes during pregnancy.  When you are pregnant, your stomach becomes more acidic.  Yeah, something like that.  I ain't no doctor guys!  For medical explanation you should seriously consult your doctor, not me bahahaha.

I had GER and reflux during both pregnancies.  Yes, both pregnancies.  I was pregnant twice.  3 kids, 2 pregnancies shukran Ya Allah.  It was horrible.  It got worst for me when I entered the third trimester.  Imagine with the never-ending morning sickness - 20 weeks with my first and 31 weeks with the second of morning sickness - the all else looks yucky moment, trust me the GER and reflux didn't make it any better.  It overshadowed the excitement of welcoming a baby in your tummy :(

How about if you can manage these two culprits that make your life miserable during pregnancy?  Wow, now there's an over-the-counter remedies for GER and heartburn, can you believe that?  I am not denying natural remedies, but hey, if there is also a quick over-the-counter remedies, then why not?  It is safe for the preggers, affordable, and hey, when you're sick you're just willing to try anything right.

Let's explore how you can manage the GER and reflux in pregnancy,

You can explore more about managing your GER and reflux on Gaviscon's Malaysia website.  Good luck managing those culprits so that you can enjoy carrying the baby(babies) in your tummy.

*A friendly reminder here, mommies and mommies-to-be, please do remember to consult your doctor before taking any medicine.

Graco Travel System (Preloved) For Sale

Edit:  SOLD
I am letting the above go.  Main reason was that I need to get a twin stroller for my twins.  I can keep the car seat, but then it will defeat the purpose of me selling this so- called travel system.

Belonged to my first daughter, only used during early months (from 2 months to 6 months).  Mostly used indoor, in good condition, the materials for the car seat is washable.  Selling price is RM400 for the whole set.  Payment terms, cash on delivery.

To purchase, drop me an e-mail at diana.molok@gmail.com and you can make appointment with me for viewing.  I am only up for meeting at Jusco Cheras Selatan since I am carrying a heavy lot in my tummy, oh well, two :p.  Then you can try fixing the car seat and the stroller in your boot to see if it fits your car, especially the stroller since the travel system's design is a bit bulky.  It fits my proton's boot well.

Photos as promised:

Some additional info for you:

Why Purchase A Travel System?  Read here http://www.whattoexpect.com/first-year/baby-gear/strollers/travel-system.aspx.
"Portability. A travel system is basically a full-size, stand-alone stroller and a compatible infant car seat that clips into the stroller when you’re on foot or into the car when you’re on (big) wheels. The beauty is that since most babies drift off on even short car rides, an infant stroller travel system allows you to switch sleeping beauty from car to stroller without disturbing her dreams. Another plus: An infant stroller travel system provides the only stroller you’ll ever need. Once your baby outgrows the infant car seat, the stand-alone stroller goes solo for the long haul."

Why blackberry.

Aku rasa ramai jugak la yang macam condemn aku pakai Blackberry (BB).  Especially bagi mereka yang pernah pakai BB, dah tau kot BB ni memang limited dari segi application dan juga entertainment function dia, because of this one reason, I believe sebab BB is meant for business.  Sebab tu lah dia nampak macam basic giler.  Kalau ko jenis orang yang buat mobile banking, sila la lupakan hasrat nak pakai blackberry.  Aku rasa memang takde pon apps untuk itu sejak aku pakai blackberry sampai sekarang.  Kalo ko berhasrat nak on Skype (the chat program tu) pon ko boleh lupakan hasrat ko tu.

Tapi since aku bukanlah jenis orang yang suka sangat nak ber mobile banking (Internet banking takpe), dah pernah try masa pakai Nokia dulu.  Memang sangat- sangat la convenient tapi at the same time bagi aku too risky.  Of course Internet Banking is all the same.  Cuma ntah, I trust the internet banking on laptop better la kot.  Just my personal preference.

Pastu kalo pengguna- pengguna BB sure agree dengan aku, pakai phone jenis ni ko kena sentiasa la cabut bateri dia (daily kalo boleh).  Tapi sekarang ada satu apps nama QuickPull ko bole install and schedule dia akan reboot device ko in full, as if ko dah cabut battery.  SO no harm there.

Aku pakai smartphone pon tak lama, before BB aku pakai N97 Mini (Nokia) so in comparison aku rasa email function blackberry lebih user friendly.  Senang nak baca dan browse, senang nak buka attachment. Again, personal preference.

In terms of chatting pulak, as we all know kita pakai smartphone ni battery cepat drain.  Tak kesah la phone jenis Cap Ayam ke hape ke, kalo ko tak off data package ko dia akan drain out your battery reallt fast.  I mean, REALLY fast.  So turning on your chat program like Nimbuzz ke Skype ke or even ko dok berfacebook 24 hours pun memang akan lagi la contribute kepada draining your battery.  Kalau ko dalam keta bole gak ngecaj.  Kalo tak selamat ler uncontactable.  When that happens you always wish that you could go back to Nokia 3310 punye zaman betoi tak.  Hehehehe.  So for me, I don't really need the chat program to be on all the time.  Penat tau menjawab chat kat handphone.  Jari jemari aiii ni besar- besar you hehehe.

You know what I need is to be connected through its BBM feature.  Sebab sekarang ni bukan sahaja my close gossip girls are on BBM, tapi juga adik- beradikku yang turut hangat bergosip y'all.  Senang nak contact mengontact kannnn.  Walaupon kelemahan nye ialah hanya those with BB can get connected, tapi aku sangat selesa menggunakan BBM feature yang ada pada BB ni.  Memang terbaik wok.  Mak suka suka suka.  Oh hidup ku sepi tanpa bicara di BBM hehehe.

Mata dah kuyu tunggu kekasih hati tengok Transformers.  Cepatlah Mr Hubby Ah Bob, saya mengantuk ni.  Kang macam- macam pulak saya post kat blog saya ni.

Finally got the Munchkin drying rack

Dah lama dah bercita- cita nak beli menda ni.  Punya la lama, sampai my baby is no longer a baby baru beli hahahaha.  Dok teringat, teringat, terbeli menda lain.  Teringat, teringat... terbeli menda lain.  Sedangkan drying rack ni adalah sangat berguna y'all.

Meh nak tunjuk gambar sikit:

Cantik tak botol- botol saya tersusun?
Pandangan sisi...Ewah seksi yeww warna putih.
Beli kat mana?  Yang ni beli kat www.littlewhiz.com for RM41.30 satu set.

My latest online purchase!

I must say masa nak beli tu memang berdebar, as in what if the size isn't the right size?  Or if tak kena dengan warna?  Or if the item doesn't turn out genuine.  Tapi I ada sorang kawan yang memang beli dari sini, and dia dah confirmkan, memang good service, good quality genuine products!

Tapi tulah, kita kalau beli online tu memang kena hati- hati. This person who sold this handbag to me memang ada include authenticity cert, ada dustbag and kalau teliti beg tu memang boleh nampak and fikir, ermmm takkan fake kot?

Ni bukan nak show off okay, ni cuma nak tunjuk hasil online shopping I!

Thursday Plantation Acne Cream, did wonder to my skin!

Forgot to take photo of MY cream at home!
OK before anyone started saying, aiyooo D where got pimples on your skin, I got ok... There's one in my forehead that's been there for months, and one just came out a few days ago.  I assume the latest one came from my daily jog, you know because I do it without cleaning the make up.  Believe me, I've got sensitive skin even though I don't look it.

The Thursday Plantation Acne Cream, was actually bought for my husband when he had this long- term 'cyst' on his forehead.  We thought it was acne, but didn't go away with a bottle of face cleanser and cream.  I bet he didn't religiously use this cream.  The 'cyst' didn't want to leave him, so no the cream didn't work OK.  He left it there on my dressing table.

Then I got annoyed with this little pimple that I've been playing with on my forehead.  I've been meaning to apply the cream, but given my 'busy' schedule (yeah right) I keep forgetting.  Until last Monday morning, when I was getting ready for work.  I applied this cream, just very thin layer of it and apply my normal skin moisturizer to the rest of the skin.  I basically left this spot with the acne cream with just that.  So when I applied my compact powder I did the same, left this part out.  Yeah it did look kinda weird, but what wouldn't a woman do for a baby smooth skin, huh?

What I didn't realise until last night (Tuesday night) was that something (the pimple) which had been with me for months had disappeared.  Miracle?  No.  The Thursday Plantation!  It must be it!  Now I sort of miss the pimple, cause I used to 'play' with it when thinking at work.  LOL.

I think you might wana give it a try.  The cream doesn't feel oily and is transparent in colour.  It doesn't smell bad either, it smells, well like any facial cream would be.  It feels slight cold when you apply it, yepp it is cooling.  I got this from Guardian, can't remember how much because it was back in November 2011 if I can remember.  I think around RM30 or lower due to some promotion, I got this with the facial cleanser for Mr Hubby.  If you think your skin might react, apply a small amount at one spot first.  Remember, what's good for others may not necessarily be good for you.  Everyone's skin is different ya?

Mommy's latest purchase: Child's Safety Gate

Last weekend I decided to install the safety gate di antara my living room dan juga kitchen.  Ayesha Amani sekarang ni suka selongkar tong sampah, dan disebabkan the recent incidents where she put mosquitos mat inside her mouth, telah menginsafkan Mommy (hahaha).  Most recent? Scary, huh?

Sebelum beli the one yang dalam photo kat bawah ni, actually dah survey online, harga dalam RM160+ and above (depending on brands, ada My Dear, ada Lindam.  Boleh tengok kat Little Whiz kalau berkenan.  Pergi kedai barangan baby, Twins Baby yang dekat Balakong tu, harga dia lebih kurang je, RM259.90 and kalau nak install extension (after a certain width, ko kena letak extension, sebab kalau tak no use)- this was RM69.00 (branded sikit la, brand Lindam).  Tapi masa tu, dekat Twins Baby dah tak ada stock.  Makanye tak beli... Tapi I bought a diaper bag kaler merah you hahaha.  Very convenient nanti I upload gambar.

Anyway, that weekend sementara tunggu my sister sampai rumah, I asked my husband to take me to one shop nearby our house.  Teringat pulak jiran cakap, dekat rumah ada satu kedai basikal where you can buy safety gate for RM100 jer. So we went there.

Buaian on display pun, net dia siap berkulat- kulat.  Tapi I learnt not to judge a book by its cover.  We went in anyway.  I asked the auntie for safety gate and she showed me two brands,  My Dear (RM140) and this other brand that I got (RM100).  But she said, My Dear one dah tak jual size kecik, so it won't fit our door.  Our measurement was 34 inches, which is lebih kurang 2 kaki 2.  So tak perlu extension, sebab yang I beli ni (brand dia is Pedypak) bole fit from 34 inches to 37 inches.  Nice huh?

Now check out the two photos.  In my opinion, safety gate adalah pilihan yang sangat bijak (must watch to make sure she doesn't climb up the thing lah kan).  Tidak sama sekali memburukkan rumah sebab warna dia bukan, saya ulang, bukan warna besi buruk.   One of Mommy's smartest purchase?

Daddy cakap, "heyyy tunggu la I habis install baru ambik gambar!"

Tadaaaaa... Kira ok la kan!

The three products I can't live without!

Hari ni nak share tiga products yang I think had worked so well on my skin, and I absolutely love them!  I have extremely dry skin and obvious dark circles no matter how much I slept.  Ketiga- tiga products ni I must say are the best human invention so far.  Percayalah hahaha.

Product 1: My dry skin companion - The Body Butter by Body Shop.

Tapi I must say this one has worked well on me.  Beli time sale tu yang paling best, buy 1 free 1.

Olive pun ok jugak.  Ini adalah favourite Mommy dan juga Ayesha!  Texture dia berbeza untuk body butter ni, this one in particular adalah sangat pekat.

Aku pakai shea butter ni nampak hasil dia selepas dua hari pakai kat tapak kaki sebelum tidur.  Tapi biasalah, Mommy ni culas sket part berlotion ni sebab bila tidurkan anak, maknye tido skali.  Hasilya?  Kulit jadi silky smooth dan ermmmm wangiiii macam nak makan.  Dah lama dah aku menjadi pengguna setia benda alah ni tau!

Product 2: Cocoa Butter Lip Care Stick by Body Shop.

Dah pakai Nivea, Maybelline semua aku tak minat.  Especially Maybelline punya sebab kalau perasan, bila pakai dia macam tinggalkan rasa 'wangi' kat dalam mulut.

Cocoa Butter Lip Care Stick ni, berbau wangi tapi tak tinggalkan rasa pelik kat mulut!  Memang sangat- sangat berkesan.  Aku ulang, sangat- sangat. Tak oily, just very moisturizing! Takut nanti oil dia mungkin menyebabkan lipstick tak berapa melekat.  Harga?  RM19 untuk size sebesar normal lipstick.  Worth every penny!

Product 3: Clinique All About Eyes Rich

Aku pakai Clinique All About Eyes Rich ni dua kali sehari, baru try pakai hari ketiga ni sempena aku post this article.  Pakai malam sebelum tidur, dan pagi sebelum bermake up.

Product ni bertujuan untuk mengurangkan puffiness, dark-eye circles, shadows and fine lines.  Sepanjang aku pakai, hasil dia memang positive sebab aku rasa lines bawah mata aku dah agak kurang kasar- kasar dia.  Rasanya bahagian bawah mata pun dah mula rasa kelihatan 'fresh' sebab undereye circles dah agak berkurangan. Dia tak berminyak, mudah menyerap, bau natural so tak annoying.  Kalau hidung korang macam hidung aku yang suka alergic bersin bila product terlalu wangi, jangan risau bagi aku cream ni berbau natural.  Texture dia nipis dan berwarna peach lembut.  Gosok pelan- pelan in circular motion kat bawah mata tu, dia akan meresap dengan cepat!

All in all, these are by far the best skin and beauty products I have on my dressing table right now.  Memang I repeat, worth every penny!

Medela Spare Kit

I made my most recent Medela kit purchases last week when my membrane got 'dirty'.  Didn't tear it or anything, but there was black spots all around the line area, and it just felt really really dirty.  I did cleanse the membranes thoroughly, however I had a suspicious feeling that the black spots were due to using the Medela Swing drawstring bag.  FYI, the Swing bag isn't netty, I think its made of canvas and therefore causes the membrane to breathe bacteria and causes the black spots.  Anyway I am a 100% sure that I was very clean and thorough when it comes to cleansing, because this involves stuff going into my baby's little tummy.

So I wrote an email to my owh-so lovely Medela supplier in Malaysia Aja Sulaiman and asked her if I can buy a spare membrane.  The old spotty ones can still be used, so it wasn't urgent or anything, I told her.  She replied that she will have stock after Eid-ul Adha, which was fine for me.  Apparently the membrane, is not sold separately.

For info, if you were to replace the membrane, you would have to buy the Spare Kit, which is sold as 1 pair, with the following 3 parts :
From left: Back Cap, Membrane and Connector.

So yes, if you were to replace 1, you will get the other 2 Medela parts as well.  In order of the above photos, you will get i) The back cap, ii) membrane and iii) connector.  This is, for me, an advantage as I just love new stuff.  You will get 1 pair which is equivalent to 3 parts x 2.  I emailed her as soon as I made payment for the parts + postage, and I got it the next morning.

You don't know how happy I am to be pumping with a new parts today :-).  You should also know that I also JUST got a new cooler bag, the Lock&Lock bag which my mate bought for me in One Utama.  Ahhh, pumping just made my day *grin*. Bliss.

SO guys, if you need any parts replacement and not sure about them, do feel free to ask questions.  Breastfeeding fellow mothers like me who tend to break things or replace the parts, may be able to help.  Tadaaa...

Starbucks Card! Dapatkannya sekarang...

How does it work?  Ala sama je macam kad toup Touch N Go korang tu, isi je duit kat dalam pasni nak beli air feveret korang takyah bawak cash.  Swipe dan menang jer you... Debit card gitu.  Masa I sign up ada 3 design jer, lagi dua card tu design dia terlalu 'chrismassy'.  Akak tak mau la kan, nanti card akak tu out of season gitu.  Hehehe so akak go green katanyer...  Topup sikit dapat free drink (lepas hang register online).  Topup RM100 boleh dapat card caddy dibawah ini.  Topup terlebih banyak, dapat lobang kat poket sebelum gaji...

Ini bahagian belakang card nye.... Taklah se'vogue' mana yew... Tapi cukup lah ahahaha.

Teringin? Tapi rugi you, baik you pergi register dulu card you di www.starbucks.com.my.

An oral aid for your teething baby...

What you see in this very low quality photo snapped from my blackberry is an oral aid to help soothes my teething baby.  I've read about oral aid before and some pain killers that can be used, but I wasn't sure if they're available in Malaysia.  I also didn't believe in using medications for my baby.  My decision was to go the old way with my teething babe and just deal with it like I always do.

Until recently I got very sick.  I mean VERY VERY sick and my morning waking up from 3 am till dawn because she cries or screams because teething just hurt hur so very badly, I just couldn't take it anymore.  I cried with her.  I screamed with her.  It has gone very bad.  Hubby didn't get much sleep either, him being the good husband, also stayed up with me.

So while at was at my local doctor, I also signed Amani up to see the doctor.  I asked doctor, "please, do you have any oil or anything that I can rub on her gum? Or pain killers? Anything that'll work as pain relief, and safe. I can't take it anymore".  The doctor then said he would prescribe me an 'oral aid' which I can apply on her gum as many times as I like.  It has sedative so it will reduces her anxiety and irritability he said.
Tried the oral aid for 4 nights already, and she seems to be getting back to sleep fine whenever teething bothers her.

I haven't googled about the side effects yet, if prolonged use.  I will add this later on once I have the time.  But it works for me now, and I will only use it as and when required.  As long as it works for now babe, Mommy's very sick.

Till then..

Medela Lanolin Tender Care - Miracle in a tube.

Disclaimer: This is not a paid review.  This post was written based on writer's own experience with the products.  Everyone's skins and healing process are different so do experiment and see what works best for you.

When I first started breastfeeding, one of the thing that I wasn't educated with was that you could get hurt when breastfeeding.  Yepp, that's right.  You could get hurt.  Most breastfeeding mothers have experienced cracked nipple once or more.  Only another breastfeeding mother who had experienced the same would understand the pain she is going through.  This is, believe me a common problem in breastfeeding.  How painful?  Believe me, if you're not strong enough to go through it you would've probably continue breastfeeding your baby.  I had gone through this several times and it involves tears and screaming.  But it didn't stop me from breastfeeding.  Understanding how it happens and the way to treat it will help you become stronger.

Cracked nipple can be bloody, or not.  It can worsen if not taken care of.  Discontinuing breastfeeding without knowing the facts might just hurt you.  Why not check out some information on Medela's website http://www.medela.com/IW/en/breastfeeding/products/breast-care/breast-nipple-problems.html. Before reading on, do take note that breastfeeding as often as possible will also help to heal, because your baby's saliva can help with healing.

I got my first cracked nipp when Amani was 4 weeks.  I was still trying to get it right back then, so yeah, didn't quite get it right.  Plus all the breastfeeding issues then.  I went to the local clinic to get treated and the doctor gave me some breast pads and Palmer's Nursing Cream to be applied thrice a day.  I applied this for over a week and was breastfeeding with tears.  This, didn't work for me at all.  After a week I also tried applying after every breastfeeding session.  Nope, also didn't work.

I then contacted my breastpump supplier Ajasu and asked if she has any product which can help me solve the problem.  I seriously hadn't thought of her until my friend Timmy mentioned her!  She said why not ask Aja, she was sure Aja would have the famous Medela miracle cream, Lanolin.  So I emailed Ajasu and long story cut short, she sent me 2 small packs (the 0.3 oz pack- not the one in the photo) of Lanolin.  I applied the cream everytime after breastfeeding and it was indeed miracle!  I was healed the next day.  Yepp, the next day.  Fast, eh?  That's why I called this the miracle cream.  I instantly fell in love with this product and sworn to keep this with me.  It became handy every now and then when I had the same problem, tadaa...

2oz Lanolin Tender Care
It was useful when my baby had thrush and infected me as well!  It got very bad, and this time it took longer to heal.  I think it was 3 to 4 days.  Yepp, it was BAD, really.  I screamed during every feeding session.  The left breast was badly infected.  I didn't go to the doctor because I was in kampung and knew that I would have to go to the same doctor.  Same ol' same ol' you know what I mean.  So yes, Lanolin had once again became my saviour.  Just for info: Lanolin Tender Care soothes dry, sore and tender nipple.  It is available in 3 sizes: - 2.0 oz, 3.0 oz and 2 cc sachet.  You can read about it on Medela's website:- http://www.medelabreastfeedingus.com/products/breast-care/413/tender-care-lanolin

Until one day I realised the cream were all used up (half of it actually leaked out because of the package).  And this time I got another cracked nipp.  Bad one, again.  You would've thought that once you get use to breastfeeding, you got the technique right and the painful period would be gone, right?  Wrong.  My baby was teething and she just had to bite me really hard until I bleed and it was super BAD!  I didn't go to doctor.  I had visited doctors far too many times and I decided not to this time.  Besides I was always contemplating when it gets too private like this.  What was I gonna do to show the doctor how bad this was?  Unbuttoned my shirt?  I wasn't comfortable about it.  I tried the natural healing at first, remember, baby's saliva?  Just continue feeding and feeding and feeding.  Wow, I was tough.  Didn't work.  So this one evening I rushed to Mom's Care in Ikano Power Centre, Mutiara Damansara after work to get the nipp cream.  I needed something fast and was hoping to find Lanolin Tender Care.  Meanwhile I applied Palmer's cream just to ease the pain.

When I got there, all they had was Purelan 100.  If I am not mistaken, this cream came out first before Lanolin.  This cream contains 100% pure lanolin which is useful for soothing sensitive nipple, and cracked and dry skin.  Apparently also works for baby's skin.  However it didn't work as fast as Lanolin Tender Care for me.  You know what I had to do.  I know what I had to do.  I contacted Ajasu again and asked her if she still has the Tender Care and that I needed the cream urgently.  Ajasu being the ever helpful and superb seller, she sent me the 2oz cream (above) and I was able to get a next day delivery.  I religiously applied Tender Care and tadaaaa.... Healed the next morning.  I seriously cannot thank Tender Care enough!  It will be my MUST HAVE in my bag!  Useful for emergency times you know.

Anyway I remember asking Ajasu why Tender Care works faster than Purelan.  She mentioned that Tender Care has beta-glucan which assist to heal skin faster.  Oh miracle cream, I would never go through breastfeeding ever without you besides me.  That's for sure.  Mothers, do remember this:- be strong and never ever give up your breastfeeding due to problems such as this.  Know that there's a solution for all problems and know where to get help!  Don't let yourself suffer just because you are not sure of something.

Edit: Where can you purchase Medela Lanolin Tender Care in Malaysia?
I bought mine from Ajasu you can check out her post on this cream here:-http://www.mybreastpumpshop.com/2011/02/medela-tendercare-lanolin-nipple-cream.html (if this link doesn't work, please copy and paste into your browser.

If you happen to be in The Curve (or any other malls that have baby store) do enquire,  they may have Lanolin Tender Care.  Otherwise try asking what nursing cream they have, you might like to give it a try.  Who knows it might work for you.

Try also http://www.mybbstore.com/ , http://www.littlewhiz.com/ , http://www.lelong.com.my/ or just try Mr.Google.  He works miracle too sometimes.

If situation gets worse, do not hesitate to see a doctor, please.  It could be serious.
